Geocell is a new type of high-molecular synthetic geosynthetic material with a unique structure and excellent soil stabilization performance.
1. Structural Characteristics and Materials
Geocell is made of high-strength HDPE (high-density polyethylene) or PP (polypropylene) material, featuring a unique three-dimensional gabion chamber structure.
High-strength Welding: High-strength welding is achieved through ultrasonic needle welding technology, ensuring the robustness of the gabion chamber walls and overall tensile strength.
Customizability: The height, welding spacing, and geometry of the gabion chambers can be adjusted according to project needs to adapt to different load requirements and filler characteristics.
Lightweight and Durable: The material is lightweight, wear-resistant, resistant to photo-oxidative aging, acid and alkali resistant, chemically stable, and has a long service life.
2. Working Mechanism
The core working mechanism of Geocell lies in "constraint-filling-volume expansion".
Constraint: The gabion chamber walls provide a strong lateral confinement effect, preventing the filler material from flowing to the sides under pressure.
Filling: Commonly used filling materials include soil, gravel, crushed stone, or sand. Under constraint, the fill material forms a state similar to "cemented soil," significantly improving compressive strength.
Volume Enhancement: Through this constrained filling method, Geocell can achieve the same or even better bearing capacity as traditionally thickened subgrades within relatively thin fill layers.
3. Application Scope
Due to its superior performance, Geocell is widely used in multiple fields.
Roads and Bridges: Used for reinforcing expressways, national highways, provincial highways, and bridge decks and subgrades to address issues such as "bridge slumping."
Highways and Railways: Suitable for subgrade reinforcement in wind-blown sand areas, saline-alkali land, and soft soil foundations to prevent frost heave and settlement.
Other Engineering: Such as seepage prevention slope protection, mine restoration, wharf and dam reinforcement, and foundation pit support in building construction.
